Pros:

• Cool body design, smallest hard-drive based digital music player.
• Convenient, intuitive and sensitive one-hand controls.
• Large capacity
• Dock for easy charge, easy sync
• Wide selection of very useful accessories that can make it work as a digital photo album, voice recorder, etc.

Cons:

• Short battery life considering the large capacity. Battery is not replacable. battery charger
• Easy to scratch and included case not satifying (once the iPod is inside the case you lose the ability to control it.) other cases
• Controls to sensitive for some people (use hold feature)
• Expensive

Major Improvements (comparing with older iPod)

New body design: 

• 1/4 inch thinner than previous version, weight is also reduced to incredible 33- 33 ounces.
• white backlight for LCD screen
• smoother edges for a rounder and sleeker looking and feel more comfortable in pocket. 
• 4 orange-backlit buttons controls: skip backward/rewind, menu, play/pause, skip forward/fast forward
• The scrollwheel no longer spin. Works just like its previous version w/ acceleration, but this new design makes the control more immune to sand and dust.

New docking station included in the package: It allows convenient battery charge and easy sync with Mac/PC. It also includes a line-out jack for direct connection to a stereo, bypassing the iPod's volume circuitry. It's a added comfort, but not a must -- you can still connect your iPod with computer with the included cable without the dock. A handy dock plug cover is also included to dust and dirt out when dock is not in use.

New dock/accessory/interface connector: It replaces the previous firewire port. Allows many very useful accessories to connect to iPod easily. See useful accessory section for more information.

New On-The-Go Play List Maker + smart-playlist feature: Now you can create playlist on your iPod without Mac/PC. MusicMatch Jukebox software also has some enhancements for easier creation of playlists. The smart-playlist allows you to rate a song (1-5) and plays the higher-rating ones more frequently.

Redesigned Earbuds : smaller, more comfortable with same audio quality.

iTunes: Put iPod in dock and iTunes automatically syncs it to your music collection. It can also create MP3 and AAC files from CDs, resample (for specified bit rate), normalize (volumn leveling), and digitally enhance songs during the transfer, create and update playlists, buy new songs from iTunes Music Store for $.99 per song or $9.99 per album. 

New Note feature: Allows user to store small text files as memo.

New Games: Parachute(parachute landing battle game) and Solitaire in addition to the previous Bricks.
